Who We Are
Compete LLC is a business that grew out of passion for impoverished youth. It began in 2011 in Omaha, Nebraska in response to the climbing crime rate and its strong correlation with the drop out rate. Convinced that it takes a village comprised of accountable persistent individuals with passion to bring about a positive change, founder JaQuala Yarbro began with just one student who had been removed from the Omaha Public School system. With a lack of familial bonds and a foundation conducive to success, the student had lost confidence in her intellectual abilities and given up on pursuing higher education and even her high school diploma. JaQuala mentored the young lady and assisted her with re-entering the school system by enrolling in an independent study program. It was then that JaQuala realized that the drop out rate could be tackled. This victory inspired her to give birth to Compete LLC.
Our programs are designed to assist marginalized youth in realizing and reaching their potential through expansion of their education. Every student can learn. It is our job to identify the method in which they learn and to effectively teach them.
Why Education
Education is one of the twelve pillars of competitiveness listed in the World Economic Forum's The Global Competitiveness Report 2012-2013, a projection of determining factors that will yield world powers, leading industries, and spheres of influence within the next 50 years. In the revelatory book, The World Is Flat, Pulitzer Prize winning author, Thomas Friedman speaks of how globalization caused the world to shrink. Receiving a thorough education is essential to being able to compete on a global scale.
