JaQuala Yarbro is an advocate for juvenile justice with an emphasis on primary education. In her first novel, To Whom Much is Given, Yarbro shares her experiences as a youth who battles the perils of life in the ghetto. Overcoming abuse, neglect, and life on the streets, Yarbro is dedicated to improving the state of primary education in underserved communities, which she cites as the conduit to success.
Yarbro attributes her survival alone to her faith in God and encourages others to find what she refers to as a mandate. As a motivational speaker and a mentor, she encourages individuals to identify their gifts and how they can impact the world. She herself is working to reshape the standard of education in underprivileged communities.
She founded Compete LLC in 2013, a business which works with institutions that specialize in primary education to produce curriculum specifically for their particular demographic. Understanding that environment effects how one receives and retains information, Compete LLC serves to present a baseline of educational material in a non-traditional manner and has been largely successful among the most impoverished demographic in Omaha, NE.
Yarbro has recently become a member of the Coalition for Juvenile Justice with the intention of collaborating with individuals across the United States to improve the state of juvenile and government relations. In April 2016, she was recognized for her leadership by the University of Chicago Jane Addams School of Social Policy and Research. She has one 8-year old daughter, Hushai, and enjoys mentoring at-risk youth.
